A massive sized strong creature - Yak able to survive only in central Asian high plateau. There are around 10 million yaks in the world and Mongolia is listed as the second country by number of this majestic species. In Mongolia, fifty percent of yaks live in more than 2000 meters above sea level and forty percent live in 1600-2000 meters above sea level where they eat around 130 different varieties of herbs. Yak milk contains the most nutrition and fat from all the different species of livestock in Mongolia.
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar. Our team will meet you at the “Chinggis Khaan” international airport and transfer to the hotel in the city. After rest, we will start our city tour starting from the Chingiss. Then we will visit Zaisan Hill that provides wide open view of the Ulaanbaatar. Visit in the Museum of National History. We will end our day with traditional performance. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 2. Kharkhorin/Erdenezuu Monastery. We will drive to Kharkhorin; an ancient Capital of Great Mongolian Empire and main treasure of Mongolian Buddhism, an Erdenezuu Monastery. We will see 800 years old worshipping Turtle Rock near the temple. Erdenezuu Monastery – the first Buddhist monastery was founded by Avtai Sain Khaan, descendant of Chinggis Khaan, on the ruins of Kharkhorin in 1586. Visit Kharkhorin Museum. Overnight in the ger camp.
Day 3. Orkhon Waterfall. We will drive to the land of Mongolian ancient khans and aristocrats: Orkhon river and its valley, the valley contains mystery of Mongolian history. Local exploration, bird watching and photo opportunity. Overnight in tent.
Day 4-5. Trekking days. Yak cart travel to the Tuvkhun monastery with visits to nomadic families etc (20-25km each day). Overnight in tent.
Day 6. Visit the Tuvkhun Monastery & the Orkhon Waterfalls. We will visit the picturesque Orkhon waterfall which is situated in the Orkhon River, that flows an 1120 km. The local name of the waterfall is Ulaan Tsutgalan and the height is 24m, waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20 000 years ago. Overnight in Ger camp.
Day 7. Ruins of the Ongi Monastery. After breakfast, we will start our ride to the direction of the ruins of Ongiin Khiid Monastery. We will visit the ruins of the monastery and small local ger museum. Overnight in the ger camp.
Day 8. Bayanzag/Flamming Cliffs. We will drive to Bayanzag known as a Flamming Cliffs to the world. In the afternoon we will arrive in the ancient red rock creation, Bayanzag formed 60-70 million years ago, famous as Flamming Cliifs named by Roy Andrew Chapman, an American explorer who visited Mongolia in 1920s. We do trekking around surrounding areas and overnight in the ger camp.
Day 9. Khongoriin Els Sand Dunes. We will drive to the Khongor els sand dunes. In the afternoon we will see marvelous Khongoriin Els dunes that stretch for an extraordinary 180 kms as wide as 7-20km. The sound of masses of wind-blown sand can be heard from the long distance. This sound is so melodic so 200m high sand dunes called as “Singing Dunes”. There is an oasis called Khongor River with stunning greenery in the summer. We will have an opportunity to ride two humped Bacterian camel named by locals “Prince of Gobi” and see camel breeder’s everyday life. Overnight at the ger camp.
Day 10. Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. We will drive to the majestic Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park where we will see incredible “Yol Valley”. The valley is the unusual narrow canyon of a river that flows through the Zuun Saikhan Mountain. We can trek along the canyon and may have an opportunity to glimpse rarely found wild sheep Argali, mountain goat Ibex and Yol Lammergeier. Overnight in the ger camp.
Day 11. Ulaanbaatar. Flight back to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to the hotel. Relaxing dinner and overnight in the hotel.
